ColourTrans

Overview

ColourTrans translates colour values between the palettes and colour formats used by the screen and by sprites. This chapter describes the cases where its behaviour is specific to particular modes and output types.

Paletted modes

ColourTrans operates faster within the standard paletted 256 colour modes where a fully specified palette is used. Earlier versions of ColourTrans accelerated only VIDC1-compatible palettes on 256 colour modes.

A similar, but more efficient, translation function is available for greyscale paletted modes.

CMYK output

ColourTrans is aware of CMYK sprites (see CMYK sprites) and generates suitable wide or regular tables for such output.

Alpha-channel output

When output is redirected to an alpha-channel mask, the palette is treated as effectively greyscale. This allows simple plot operations to be performed.
